“This fleeting world,” the Buddha said, “is like a star at dawn, a bubble in a stream, a flash of lightning in a summer cloud, a flickering lamp, a phantom, and a dream.”

The Bronze Serpent is a treasury of tales of earth, sea and sky, from primordial myths of chaos and cosmos, to the starlit realm and the wonders of nature. There are more than twenty tales from all over the world, among them The Elixir of ImmortalityThe Silver Maid, and The Crane Wife.

Five sections accompany the stories, exploring the extensive themes through comparative mythology, folklore, symbolism and shamanic flights of consciousness.

The Bronze Serpent is a journey through the dream of the world, from the Northern Lights and the Milky Way, to Star Maidens, butterflies and golden lotus flowers.

“Amy Dyer re-tells the myths and folktales in an archaic way, which very much appeals to me. A well-known storyteller here in Sweden has said that folktales for the individual can take on the same function as myths, an insight that Dyer in The Bronze Serpent conveys. Dreamy artwork by Niall Grant adds to the atmosphere of the book. Highly recommended if you are interested in myths, folktales and symbolism. Many of my favourite symbols are found in this book such as snakes and the sun.”
